eklektika.berlin - Steve Lewis

eklektika.berlin

It started with cellos and ended in Berlin. The Internet, streaming and AI for artwork have all opened the door to endless musical and creative possibilities.  It is wonderful to live at a time when everyone can write, produce and distribute music so easily and cheaply without record contracts etc. And the learning never stops......

Presenting eklektika.berlin - a solo music project of self-written and self-performed songs, all of which are presented as singles. They are mainly stories about various things close to me, and in various styles.

Why eklektika.berlin?

There are so many people out there called Steve Lewis or Stephen Lewis that I had to come up with a name for the music that was a bit different. I thought about names like "Baroque n'Roll" because of the cellos, but ended up with eklektika.berlin because the music style is very eclectic, and I am also a big fan of the Finnish heavy metal cello band called Apocalyptica, and felt that eklektika.berlin went a little bit away from a normal classical or singer-songwriter name.

My music is on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon etc. under my name, Steve Lewis.

If the words or music resonate with you somehow - and if you have any ideas for new song themes that would be interesting for you, get in touch and maybe we can collaborate…

Are there live gigs?

Not yet - so far this has been a studio project, although I can play everything unplugged with guitar and vocals. Maybe in the future....either on my own or with others.

Berlin

My  work in the field of education has taken me from the UK to Bermuda, Brunei, Dubai, Germany and the Netherlands.

Wherever I have lived I have got involved in music and have had the opportunity to play in symphony orchestras, string quartets, choral works, jazz bands and big bands, folk music, musicals, rock bands and smaller alternative music groups. I am NOT a professional musician, and for me music has always been a wonderful hobby - and I will keep on going.

I have a very broad taste in music, and as a teenager I was inspired by the progressive rock bands of the time to move away from just classical music.

For me the starting point for the cello going from reading notes to improvising was the first single by the Electric Light Orchestra, 10538 Overture

Later on 2 Cellos and Apocalyptica opened up new doors:

I have ended up in Berlin with more time for music….and have always had the ambition write and record my own songs. I work in Leipzig, and my commute on the train gives me time to develop new song ideas.

Marco Gordijn, singer and songwriter from the band Starlit Sea which I played with in the Netherlands for over 10 years. The songs from Starlit Sea are in the More section. I have worked on new versions of a few of the songs I wrote at that time, and a few which we did some work on until the pandemic brought things to a standstill.
